Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation Provides 5 Scholarships for Broward County Schools
DAVIE, FL – The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) celebrated its partnership with Take Stock in Children of Broward County by providing a charitable donation to sponsor five local students. A Graduation and Contract Signing event was held on April 29th at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. CICF Board members Eleni Kalisch and Dan Farkas were on hand to present a check for $28,440, which will serve as a dollar-for-dollar match to provide college tuition for under-privileged youth.
The event commemorated an ongoing partnership between the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation and Take Stock in Children. CICF and Take Stock in Children have worked together to provide scholarships for children from low-income families in the Broward County area who would otherwise have no way to pay for college.
Take Stock in Children is a public-private partnership of state government, businesses, school systems, social service agencies, civic and religious organizations, and private citizens that has made a measurable difference in the lives of more than 17,000 low-income children. Helping young people to realize their dreams of higher education since 1995, Take Stock in Children has awarded over $108 million in scholarships. The organization prides itself in giving children the opportunity to excel by providing mentors and hope to underprivileged children of Florida's communities.
"It is always a pleasure working with such a worthy organization that truly embodies the spirit of selflessness; the cruise industry will continue to support Take Stock's efforts," said CICF Board Chairman Jim Border.
The cruise industry continues to have a significant economic impact in the State of Florida. The five major Florida ports of Miami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Tampa, and Jacksonville embark nearly five million passengers annually. Cruise lines spent more than $6 billion in Florida in 2007, and supported almost 127,000 jobs paying more than $5 billion in wages for Florida workers.
