Cruise Industry Supports Cancer League Work with Miami Cancer Patients
Miami, FL – The Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation (CICF) is pleased to announce its continued support for the League Against Cancer (La Liga Contra el Cancer). At a recent grant presentation ceremony in Miami, CICF Board members provided a $25,000 donation to La Liga for work it has conducted throughout the year.
Special guests attending the grant presentation included: CICF Board members: James Border, Chairman, Eleni Kalisch, Secretary/Treasurer, Charles Robertson, Dan Farkas, and Cindy Colenda; Lourdes Aguila-Meneses, La Liga Board Chairwoman, and Adriana Cora, Executive Vice President.
The League Against Cancer, founded in Miami in 1975, is a community-based, not-for-profit organization providing free medical care to Cancer patients. More than 350 Florida physicians, who are board-certified in their specialties, volunteer their services to the League Against Cancer.
“The League Against Cancer provides an immense contribution to the Miami community by offering free medical care to cancer patients who otherwise would be unable to afford costly and protracted cancer treatment,” said CICF Chairman, Jim Border. “CICF is proud to support the work being carried out by the League Against Cancer. This grant further demonstrates the industry’s commitment to charitable organizations that provide a helping hand to families and children in need of assistance.”
The cruise industry continues to have a significant economic impact in the State of Florida. The five major Florida ports of Miami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Tampa, and Jacksonville embark nearly five million passengers annually. Cruise lines spent more than $6 billion in Florida in 2007, and supported almost 127,000 jobs paying more than $5 billion in wages for Florida workers.
